Weekend Special! 好評につき桜餅！

Thank you for everyone's partronage and visiting Cafe Japan.    Last week, we made Sakura mochi for the special menu and many customers seemed enjoyed it!  We are so happy to hear your feedback and decided to make Sakura mochi again every weekends in March after getting your feedback.  Hope you enjoy Japanese spring special!
先週は、スペシャルで桜餅を用意しました。好評につき、今月の毎週末に桜餅を用意することになりました。もちろん、事前に予約も受け付けますので、お召し上がりになたい方はメールや電話での予約をお勧めします！

This is different type of Mochi with Sakura - Cherry blossom - Bean Jam.  Pink clour is charming, isn't it?  This is also sweet but slightly salty so that more adults like sweets than children.
 こちらは、桜餡の大福です。桜餅とは、別の日に用意しました。桜餅は、お子様にも人気がありましたが、この桜餡の大福は、少し塩味がありますから、お子様には不人気なようですね。大人のお菓子ですね。

We have started the special menu from last Saturday.   Did you like our unique sweets and foods?   We hope you have enjoyed them.　　It is our fun to talk about foods and different customs with the customers from Sri Lanka and other many countries and area.   Especially to know the unique foods from customers is my fun!   
These are our daily special bento menu for March.  The more popular menu will be sold soon so that we recommend to keep your Bento if you have some favorite one.

３月の三日間だけ限定の特別メニューが土曜日からはじまりました。スリランカで、日本の春を少しでも感じてくださいましたらうれしいですね。また、スリランカの方を始め、色々な国の方と食べ物の話や食べ物にまつわる風習の話などをするのが楽しいですね。

Special menu for 3 March on this weekend ひな祭りスペシャル

This is an authentic Japanese traditional sweet especially in spring.   It is called Sakura Mochi.   As you may know, Sakura is Cherry blossoms and this is the symbol of spring and the sweets using Sakura leaves and pink coloured rice imaging Sakura cherry blossoms.   The sakura leaves are salted to keep longer green and freshness.   Mochi but this time sticky rice coloured in pink is stuffed with Red bean jam. 
As 3 March we have a girls' festival day in Japan, we are going to make these Sakura Mochi and special menu this weekend.  Unfortunately, we close the restaurant as our regular holiday on that day therefore we start special menu between 28 February Saturday and 2 March Monday.   If you would like to order these Sakura Mochi, please order in advance and we would like to keep them for you!   Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any inquiries!   In the restaurant, we make special menu and other special desserts.   Looking forward to having Japanese spring with you in Colombo!

Bougainvillea ブーゲンビリア

Now bougainvilleas blosome beautiful.   Cafe Japan Restaurant is located very closed to the  shore and the salt wind causes corrotion in the dry season.   However, in the rainy season, the wind becomes weaker, rain cleans the salt on flowers and trees and flowers bloom.    In the west south area of Sri Lanka and Colombo, it is the best season to spend as temparature is comfortable from November to February and March． It is getting hotter and hotter toward April and May.  It maybe a good time to visit West South shore of  Sri Lanka for the travel this time. 
 ただいま、ブーゲンビリアの花が満開です！きれいに咲いてくれてとても嬉しい。。カフェジャパンのお店のある場所は海岸が近いので、乾季は潮風が吹いて草花も枯れてしまいます。ほんの一部の強い草花だけが懸命に花を咲かせたりしています。しかし、雨季の９月頃から３月頃までは、潮も雨で洗い流してくれますし、海からの風も穏やかになりますので、草花が生き返り、たくさんの花が咲き乱れます。それに、コロンボやスリランカの西南部は１１月から２月頃まで、気温も下がり、大変すごし易い時期になります。私も一番好きな季節です。もし、ご旅行の予定がありましたら、この時期が大変お勧めですよ！実際、２月は春節とも重なりますし、観光客の多い時期でもあるようです。

Bougainvillea has thorns like roses.   In Japan, we have a saying that beautiful things have thorns which means to take care about the beautiful things as it may be happend painful things. 
ブーゲンビリアの枝には棘がありますよ。きれいな物には棘があるんですね！？

Aji - Horse Mackerel 美味しい鯵

Very popular sushi maybe Maguro - Tuna and Salmon.    But Sushi lover - Fish lover like other kind of fish, too.  And the true sushi lovers know plenty kinds of fish.   Aji- Horse Mackerel is one of the best fish.   Aji - Horse Mackerel is difficult to handle and hard to find very fresh one for Sashimi and Sushi.   When you feel tuna and salmon are too fat, Aji- Horse mackerel helps you refresh.  It contains a lot of DHA and good to health.  Some gourmet customers request Aji - Horse Mackerel sushi and Aji- Horse Mackerel on Donburi Rice.  　Aji-Horse Mackerel which we could have in Sri Lanka is very fresh, thick and tasty.   If you have never had it, I will recommend to have it!  Hope you like it!
寿司で一番人気があるのは、マグロや鮭です。ですが、本当に魚好き、寿司好きな人から支持されている魚のひとつが、鯵かもしれません。取り扱いが難しい魚のひとつですから、刺身や寿司に適する新鮮な鯵を探すのが大変難しいです。ですが、スリランカの鯵は身に厚みもあり、大変美味しいです。美食家のお客様からは、たびたび鯵の寿司や、鯵丼のリクエストがあります。DHAも多く含む食べ物ですし、健康にもいいですよね！

On Poya day ポーヤデーの日に

 

On Poya day, we decolate traditional dolls for the day 3 March of Girls day.  The family pray mainly the daughters and children's happiness.   5 May is Boys day.   For about a month, we enjoy the dolls and enjoy some traditional foods, too.   We drink Amazake meant Sweet Sake but it is not contained any liquor made from fermmented rice.   And eat Chirashi zushi Vegetable mixed sushi with seafoods and some snacks.  We will prepare something unique near 3 March.   Hope you enjoy it, too!

ポーヤデーの日は、レストランはお休みでした。その日に、３月３日のひな祭りのための雛人形を飾りました。毎年恒例になっています。３月３日は火曜日ですので、レストランはお休みですが、その前に、ひな祭りに関連した品を用意したいと思います！お楽しみに！

Decoration mochi Kagami mochi 鏡餅

It is Poya day (Full moon day) today and Indipendence day tomorrow in Sri Lanka.
While we close for two days, we would like to upload our blog!
You may remember this.   This is Kagami Mochi - Decoration mochi only for new year season.  We can buy this at the super market in Japan but we have to make it every year by ourselves.   But I think it is very tasty as it is hand-made!   We welcome the new year and decorate then eat on 11 January to pray family's and friends' happiness.
We serve Shiruko - mochi (rice cake) in red bean warm sweet soup on the day.   We wish your good health, wealth and happiness, too!  Hope you liked it!

先月の話ですが、休みの間にブログをアップしたいと思います。
先月、新年にお供えした鏡餅。
今年も手作りしました。ちょっと、ぶかっこうになるかなあと、心配でしたが、
形になるものですね！
1月11日の鏡開きに、このお餅を使って、お汁粉を作りました。
デザートでお出ししましたが、お召し上がり頂けましたか？
