Reopened from today! 今日から営業です。

Hi, Everyone!  We have reopened the restaurant from today.   Thank you for a lot of inquiries during holidays.
１週間のお休みのあと、今日から営業を始めました。お休みの間も、お電話や問い合わせを頂きありがとうございました。また、その間に日本に帰国されたお客様、ご挨拶も出来ずに申し訳ありませんでした。 また、いつか、どこかでお会いできるのを楽しみにしています！

For the operation of the restaurant, we have to renew several licenses and one of them is issued here.  This  is Urban Development Authority.   It is a quite big building and sometimes I'm in lost even I visit there every year.   Don't you think the palm trees add very tropical atmosphere?
さて、今日は、ちょっとレストランを離れて別なところでお仕事の話です。以前にもブログで書きましたが、レストランの営業許可を取るために様々なお役所で許可を頂かなければなりません。こちらにも、毎年来ることになります。なかなか大きな建物で、中も入り組んでいるため、迷路のようでよく迷子になります。毎年来ているにも関わらず・・・。やしの木が、何となく、南国の雰囲気でしょう？

There is a cafeteria as well.  They are serving foods and tea with very low price.   I think it is for the officers who work and use every day.   You can find interesting and very local foods a lot here.  I'm also enjoyed foods here when I visit.
建物の中にある、カフェテリアです。とてもお安い値段で提供しています。こちらで働く人たちが毎日利用するからでしょうね。色々な食べ物があり、興味深く見ています。もちろん、気軽に食べることもできますので、初めての食べ物にも挑戦することもあります。未だに、食べたことのないスリランカ料理もたくさんあるので・・。

Handmade 手作りコースター

Hi everyone!   How are you?
These are coasters which we are using at our restaurant.   These are handmade!   Of course, I can not sew and ask the regular tailor shop to make them.   Our friends Momiji Natural's Rie-san let us know the tag company and we could order 'Cafe Japan' tag for the coaster finally.  We sometimes think what we should give and we give the regular customers them for the memories when we know they leave Sri Lanka.  

 これは、レストランで使用しているコースターです。布を買ってきて、手作りしました。と、言っても、いつもの仕立て屋さんに頼んでいるだけですが・・。'Cafe Japan'のタグは、Momiji Naturalの理恵さんに会社を紹介して頂き作りました。カフェジャパンに食事に来て頂いたお客様が帰国されたり、転勤される時にいつも何をプレゼントしようか迷うのですが、時々、このコースターをプレゼントしたりしています。

Colombo's Landmark Town Hall コロンボの名所 タウンホール

This is the inside of Town Hall.  The view from the main entrance.   When I went to renew the lisence, I took it.  When I asked the information staffs if I can take a picture, they said, 'No, problem!'  and they explained about the portraits to me.  I was pleased so much.    These portraits are successive presidents and prime ministers. 

以前、こちらで紹介したタウンホール。レストラン免許更新で伺った時に写真を撮ってきました。こちらが、内部の写真です。これは、正面玄関から入ったところのロビーで、歴代の首相と大統領の肖像画と現在の大統 領の肖像画が張られています。最近、綺麗にしたばかりです。本当は、裏側に実務のオフィスがあり、大きなホールの中に仕切りがあり、机が並べられていて、 市民はここに税金を納めにくるのです。本当は、そっちの写真を撮りたかったのですが、写真を撮る勇気がなくて・・・。正面玄関の入り口にいた担当者に写真 を撮っていいかどうか聞いてみると、何の問題もなく許可が出たので綺麗なところだけ写真をとりました。

As the ceiling is very high, I feel tired when I go up stairs.  
この階段は、市長室へ通じる階段です。ちゃんと、エレベーターもありますよ。

Daily special Bento Menu in October (Only delivery)

This is a menu for daily Special bento in October.   It is made only limited numbers so that we recommend to order in early morning.    And we make daily special Bento only weekdays.
We close 20th and 21st night and from 22nd to 28th October.    We are very sorry for inconveniences.
Anyway, thank you so much for the regular customers who always order our food!!    We are so happy to hear from you!

１０月の日替わり弁当メニュー（宅配用）

早いもので、１０月になってしまいました。海辺の風がだいぶ穏やかに感じるようになりました。スリランカはこれから、西南海岸の季節となります。常 夏の国ですが、モンスーンの影響で、とっても暑く感じる時期もありますし、過ごしやすい季節になることもあります。これから冬にかけて過ごしやすい季節に なります。嬉しいです。
１０月２０日、２１日は昼間だけの営業、２２日から２８日までお休みさせて頂きます。

Open from 11:30 on weekends 週末は１１時半から

Hi everyone!  How are you?   What a beautiful beach day today!
Usually we open the restaurant from 12 pm but we start to open the restaurant from 11:30 on weekends.
今日は、とってもいいお天気です。こんな日は、出かけたくなりますね。
カフェジャパンは、昨日から、週末は１１時半からオープンすることにしました。平日は、１２時からのオープンですが、平日でも、早めにランチを取りたい方など、ご一報頂ければ早めにオープンしてお待ち申し上げます。遠慮なくお申し付け下さい。

This is Japense Curry bread.   We can buy at the bakery shops in Japan but we have to make it here.   It is a familiar snack in Japan.
今日のまかないは、皆様おなじみのカレーパンでした。ぱくぱく美味しく頂きました。作るのに手間はかかりますが、時々食べたくなる味です。

What is this? NOREN 暖簾

A customer asked us, 'What is this?'
It is NOREN - a store curtain.  It is not a religious thing but a traditional item of the shops in Japan.  The entrance is usually hung with Noren and it means the opening hour in Japan.  It is the symbol of the border inside and outside, shading sunlight and wind, and interrupting the view from outside.
We had not have the store curtain since we have moved the present place and we decided to make an original Sri Lankan taste curtain.  When we went to the shop and  looking at many varieties of cloths, the shop clerk asked us what we were going to make.   Curtain?  Bingo!  They are good guessers.

先日、外国人のお客様に、「これは何ですか？」と聞かれました。暖簾です。日本ではお馴染みのものですが、外国人には珍しく映ったのかもしれません。私たちも、今のお店に引っ越してから暖簾をかけていなかったのですが、面白いからオリジナルの暖簾を作ろうということで、スリランカらしい布を探しに行きました。スリランカらしくもあり、日本らしくもある素敵な柄が見つかったので、馴染みの仕立て屋さんに布を持っていって作ってもらいました。本来ならば、サリーとして活躍したはずの布ですが、カフェジャパンの暖簾となりました。お店で、色々な布を物色していたら、店員さんに、「何に使うのですか？」「カーテンですか？」と聞かれました。鋭いなと思いました。確かに、サリーの布を、カーテンにしているお客様は意外と多いのかも知れないなあと思いました。
