Hinamatsuri Girls' festival ひな祭り

You may know them and you might see them at Cafe Japan.  We have already decorated dolls in the beginning of February.  A traditional festival will be held on 3rd of March in Japan.   We call it Hinamatsuri - Girls' festival.   The parents pray and celebrate their daughters' health, wealth and happiness.  Every year, the special dolls are decorated at home for about a month until 3rd of March.  We enjoy the beginning of the spring season as well and make some special foods and sweets.   We can not enjoy Sakura cherry blossoms and other spring floweres here though we may enjoy making the special sweets here.   Looking forward to meeting you!

すでにご来店のお客様はご存じだと思いますが、今年も雛人形を飾っております。日本にいますと四季の移り変わりを感じるものですが、コロンボにいますと年中夏のようでなかなか四季を感じることができません。ですが、このようにちょっとは日本の雛祭りらしく飾って、春の花を愛でることはできませんが、雛祭りの特別和菓子を作ってみようかなと考えております。

Tuna Steak マグロのステーキ

We wrote about Tuna in Sri Lanka before and tuna in Sri Lanka is very fresh and very tasty.  Tuna steak is as very tasty as  Fresh Tuna (Tuna Sashimi).  If you feel to eat Tuna but not Sashimi, we recommend this!    We serve teriyaki Tuna as well as today's fish menu some time.   Wish you enjoy our tuna menu!

スリランカのまぐろは美味しいと言う話は何度もしていますが、まぐろのステーキも刺身と同じくらいとっても美味しいですよ！そのほかには、魚のメニューとして時々日替わりで照り焼きツナを用意しています。マグロのステーキはじゅうじゅうの鉄板にのってきますから、熱々で美味しいですよ！

Hello! How are you?  We had a lot of rain and a little colder last month but it is getting clear and sunny these days in Colombo.  We have Sri Lanka's Independence day in February but we are going to open as usual.   Looking forward to seeing you at Cafe Japan.
皆様、いかがお過ごしですか？先月は雨の日も多く涼しい日も続きましたが、最近は天気のいい日が続いていますね。涼しい時期も大変すごしやすいですが、天気のいい日は出掛けたくなりますよね。今月は、スリランカの独立記念日がありますが、いつも通り月曜日宅配のみ、火曜日お休みで営業させて頂きます。皆様のご利用をお待ち申し上げます。

Red beans with Mochi - Sticky rice ミニぜんざい

In the beginning of January, we made mochi Rice cake and served as lunch and dinner and also as a dessert.   This is one of desserts we call ZENZAI which is red beans sweet soup with baked sticky rice.  At Cafe Japan, the lunch set is included in dessert and you can select from fruits, icecream or Japanese sweet.   One day, we served ZENZAI as a Japanese sweet of lunch set.  Some customers can not eat dessert as they were full with food before having dessert. 
カフェジャパンでは、ランチのセットを注文されますとデザートがついてきます。デザートは、果物、アイスクリーム、和菓子の中からお選びいただけます。中には、ランチでお腹がいっぱいになって、デザートまで召し上がれないお客様もいらっしゃいます。1月はお餅をつきましたので、ある日の和菓子はミニぜんざいをご用意しました。

Thank you for visiting Cafe Japan.  These two days, we have served Japanese traditional new year dish and not only Japanese but foreign customers including in Sri Lankan local customers tried them.  We are very happy to share the new year dish with the customers.  Sometimes we wonder whether the foreign customers like our foods but most of times we realized it was needless fears.  Some customers have already experienced Japanese food before or even new generations have more curiosities and welcomed our food, too.  It is the most wonderful experience for us to introduce and share our food and get the feedback about our food and sometimes we knew more world that the customers also taught us their food and cultures about.  Yesterday, the Ozoni - Rice cakes in the soup was sold out but we would like to serve it until today.

新年から二日しか経っていませんが、お客様に日本のおせち料理やお雑煮を召し上がって頂いて大変嬉しく思っています。いつも、地元のスリランカ人のお客様をはじめ、外国人のお客様にも召し上がっていただけるかどうか疑心暗鬼になるのですが、いつも杞憂に終わります。それが、とっても嬉しいのです。既に日本食をよく御存知のお客様もいて、新しいものに興味を持たれたりすることもありますし、初めての若い方でも召し上がって頂けるととても嬉しく感謝したくなります。お客様から感想を頂いたり、お客様の国の料理の話などを聞いたりするのも私たちの財産になっています。

昨日一度売り切れとなったお雑煮ですが、お餅が続く限り（おそらく本日まで）、準備しようと思っております。皆様のお越しを心よりお待ち申し上げます。

Tradtional New year food Ozoni Osechi 新年のお料理 お雑煮 御節

Hope you had a good new year day and come back to the work.  We also started to open our restaurant from yesterday.  We prepare Japanese traditional new year food.  One is Ozo-ni.  Baked Mochi - rice cakes in the vegetable and chicken soup. We make Mochi from the rice at our kitchen and every year we enjoy the fresh Mochi.   It is very yummy.
新年みなさまどのようにお過ごしになられましたか？私たちは昨日からレストランの営業です。スリランカは、正月も普通の日です。今年は日曜日と重なりましたので、休日となりましたが、2日から普通に仕事が始まります。
昨日からメニューにお雑煮を加えています。手作りのお餅を焼いた物を使っています。お餅は毎年つくのですが、とっても美味しいですね。お餅がなくなり次第終了とさせて頂きます。

 This is also New year dish and we make it specially on customer's request.  There are some ingredients and materials in Sri Lanka and we have to think how to make every year.  Each food on the dish has each special meaning for example, Black beans means we work hard in healthy condition, Persimmons means collect the good lucks and so on.  Hope the customer liked this special dish and enjoyed. 
こちらはお客様から特別にリクエストがあり、ご用意したおせち料理です。毎年、私たちも作っていますが、スリランカにはない食材もあるので工夫して作っています。手作りの伊達巻は最高に美味しいですね。幸運をかき集められるように、柿も使われています。お客様にも喜ばれたらいいなあと思いました。
