I like to find some similar part of culture to Japan in Sri Lanka. Of course, there is a lot of differences but some of familiar parts as well. In Colombo, I found a lot of merchant who calling and selling goods and services. For example, coconuts, fish, milk, vegetable, breads, service to cut coconuts in the garden, service to sharpen knives, and so on. In Japan, especially old times, a lot of merchant sold goods to houses walking around and calling. We knew which merchant came in house and went to buy the goods. If I want some breads in the morning, I took care of the sounds and I went out when I heard the bread merchant rang the bell in Sri Lanka. Now in Japan it is not common to see those merchants. I was pleased to hear the sounds when I came to Sri Lanka.
