Colombo's Landmark Town Hall コロンボの名所 タウンホール

This is the inside of Town Hall.  The view from the main entrance.   When I went to renew the lisence, I took it.  When I asked the information staffs if I can take a picture, they said, 'No, problem!'  and they explained about the portraits to me.  I was pleased so much.    These portraits are successive presidents and prime ministers. 

以前、こちらで紹介したタウンホール。レストラン免許更新で伺った時に写真を撮ってきました。こちらが、内部の写真です。これは、正面玄関から入ったところのロビーで、歴代の首相と大統領の肖像画と現在の大統 領の肖像画が張られています。最近、綺麗にしたばかりです。本当は、裏側に実務のオフィスがあり、大きなホールの中に仕切りがあり、机が並べられていて、 市民はここに税金を納めにくるのです。本当は、そっちの写真を撮りたかったのですが、写真を撮る勇気がなくて・・・。正面玄関の入り口にいた担当者に写真 を撮っていいかどうか聞いてみると、何の問題もなく許可が出たので綺麗なところだけ写真をとりました。

As the ceiling is very high, I feel tired when I go up stairs.  
この階段は、市長室へ通じる階段です。ちゃんと、エレベーターもありますよ。

This is a menu for daily Special bento in October.   It is made only limited numbers so that we recommend to order in early morning.    And we make daily special Bento only weekdays.
We close 20th and 21st night and from 22nd to 28th October.    We are very sorry for inconveniences.

１０月の日替わり弁当メニュー（宅配用）

早いもので、１０月になってしまいました。海辺の風がだいぶ穏やかに感じるようになりました。スリランカはこれから、西南海岸の季節となります。常 夏の国ですが、モンスーンの影響で、とっても暑く感じる時期もありますし、過ごしやすい季節になることもあります。これから冬にかけて過ごしやすい季節に なります。嬉しいです。
１０月２０日、２１日は昼間だけの営業、２２日から２８日までお休みさせて頂きます。

Open from 11:30 on weekends 週末は１１時半から

Hi everyone!  How are you?   What a beautiful beach day today!
Usually we open the restaurant from 12 pm but we start to open the restaurant from 11:30 on weekends.
今日は、とってもいいお天気です。こんな日は、出かけたくなりますね。
カフェジャパンは、昨日から、週末は１１時半からオープンすることにしました。平日は、１２時からのオープンですが、平日でも、早めにランチを取りたい方など、ご一報頂ければ早めにオープンしてお待ち申し上げます。遠慮なくお申し付け下さい。

This is Japense Curry bread.   We can buy at the bakery shops in Japan but we have to make it here.   It is a familiar snack in Japan.
今日のまかないは、皆様おなじみのカレーパンでした。ぱくぱく美味しく頂きました。作るのに手間はかかりますが、時々食べたくなる味です。

What is this? NOREN 暖簾

A customer asked us, 'What is this?'
It is NOREN - a store curtain.  It is not a religious thing but a traditional item of the shops in Japan.  The entrance is usually hung with Noren and it means the opening hour in Japan.  It is the symbol of the border inside and outside, shading sunlight and wind, and interrupting the view from outside.
We had not have the store curtain since we have moved the present place and we decided to make an original Sri Lankan taste curtain.  When we went to the shop and  looking at many varieties of cloths, the shop clerk asked us what we were going to make.   Curtain?  Bingo!  They are good guessers.

先日、外国人のお客様に、「これは何ですか？」と聞かれました。暖簾です。日本ではお馴染みのものですが、外国人には珍しく映ったのかもしれません。私たちも、今のお店に引っ越してから暖簾をかけていなかったのですが、面白いからオリジナルの暖簾を作ろうということで、スリランカらしい布を探しに行きました。スリランカらしくもあり、日本らしくもある素敵な柄が見つかったので、馴染みの仕立て屋さんに布を持っていって作ってもらいました。本来ならば、サリーとして活躍したはずの布ですが、カフェジャパンの暖簾となりました。お店で、色々な布を物色していたら、店員さんに、「何に使うのですか？」「カーテンですか？」と聞かれました。鋭いなと思いました。確かに、サリーの布を、カーテンにしているお客様は意外と多いのかも知れないなあと思いました。 

Japanese style dried Mackerel 鯵の一夜干しときゅうりと茗荷の酢の物

Hello everyone.   It is a full moon day - Poya Day in Sri Lanka.   Hope you will see the beautiful moon from your place.
本日、スリランカはポーヤデー（満月の日）でした。本来ならば、祝日ですが、日曜日と重なっていたため、ポーヤデーだと気づかないお客様もいらっしゃったようですね。

This was the today's fish meal at the restaurant.   It is called ' Aji no Ichiya boshi - Japanese style dried mackerel.    It is a dried fish but soft as it was dried only overnight.   Ichiya means overnight in Japanese.  It is tasty as well as simple grilled mackerel but we can enjoy the different taste from one fish.  Usually I do not recommend foreign customers as it is difficult to explain how different from normal grilled mackerel and sometimes it is more difficult to eat, however, one customer from Hong Kong tried this and she enjoyed to have it today.    I was pleased to hear she liked to enjoy Japanese authentic food and enjoyed the slight difference of taste as well.
これは、本日の魚定食の鯵の一夜干しです。日本の皆様には、お馴染みの味だと思います。外国人のお客様には、ふつうの焼き魚と一夜干しの区別を説明するのが 難しいので、あまりお勧めしないのですが、今日の香港からのお客様が是非お試しになりたいとのことだったので、お出ししました。お召し上がりになった後、美味しくて塩味が絶妙と言ってくださって、大変嬉しくなりました。

This is the one other dish used Dried mackerel, cucumber and Myoga.    
こちらは、鯵の一夜干しを使った酢の物です。茗荷の香りがあっています。

Colombo's landmark コロンボの名所

Hi, everyone.  How are you? Colombo is very hot!   There is no breeze today.   As Cafe Japan is located seaside, always strong sea breeze is annoying us though no wind is not welcome!  Hope the rain shower cool down us.  Beautiful sunny day and comfortable wind make me feel good,too. 

皆様、いかがお過ごしでいらっしゃいますか？コロンボは、現在、無風状態で大変暑く感じます。カフェジャパンは、海辺に位置していますので、海風に敏感なのです。いつもは、強いくらいの風が吹き、大変困っていますが、これから、風の穏やかな季節がやってきそうです。無風の後は、雨のシャワーが降ってきそうですけどね。

It is a topic of Sri Lanka today.   This is Town Hall in Colombo located in the middle of city.   It is very big and a white building is shining.  Inside of Town Hall, there are a lot of offices and a lot number of officers are working.   We also visit Town hall every year to renew the lisence for the Restaurant.
At the beginning when we have started the restaurant, we did not know what kind of documents we have to prepare.   Everytime we go, the officers are kind and help us with explanation of the documents and procedure.  For the operation of the restaurant, we have to get several licenses, though we could manage as all government officers are helpful.  Sometimes, we meet some restaurant owners in some offices.
Today, I saw some ladies were turfing on the huge place in front of the building.  I thought they are keeping beautiful the place though they must have been tired as it was hot and huge land. 

さて、今日は、久しぶりにスリランカの話題です。この建物は、コロンボ市内中心部にあるタウンホールです。一見、カフェジャパンとは関係がないようですが、実は、関係があるのです。タウンホールと言うからには、市役所で、市長さんのオフィスもあり、市議会所でもあるのです。重厚な建物の中は、オフィスになっていて、たくさんの人が働いています。カフェジャパンも、免許更新のため、毎年行かなければならないところなのです。
レストランを開くためには、いくつかの免許が必要です。この制度がうまくできているのですが、レストランの免許を取るためには、役所Aの免許が必要。役所Aの免許を取得するためには、役所Bの免許が必要。役所Bの免許が必要な場合は、役所Cの免許が必要・・・・と永遠に続きそうな勢いで、色々な役所が絡み合っています。
最初は、全くわからない状態からのスタートでしたが、それぞれの役所に行って見ると、（外国人だからか？）歓迎してくれ、免許を取るために必要な書類などを丁寧に教えてくれます。また、広い敷地内、誰に会ったらいいかもわかりませんが、次々に紹介してくれるのです。本当に親切だなあと思います。
日本だと、免許が切れたら、失効となりますから、免許期間前に更新しなくてはなりませんよね？私も、毎年焦るのですが、ここの国の人は大らかと言うか、それぞれの役所の手続きが煩雑なため、時間がかかり、現在手続き中であることがわかれば、何とか問題なく手続きをしてくれます。
タウンホールの建物は、天井が高く、広いのですが、敷地も大変広いのです。今日は、芝生の入れ替えをおばさんたちがしていましたが、暑い中、ご苦労様という感じでした。
