Japanese tradition - Kagami Biraki

Today is the day to eat Kagami Mochi - Rice cake which kept offering to gods for10 days from the new year day.   It is a kind of tradition and we think it calls good luck and healthy life to eat Kagami Mochi (Rice cake) on 11 January.  Today, we made O-Shiruko (Rice cake in the sweet red bean soup).   I tried to explain our tradition and custom but it was difficult for me.   Pleased to share the food to call good luck and healthy life with you and your challenge to the new food.  It seems difficult for some foreign guests to eat rice cake as it was very chewy like gum.  We hope you enjoyed our food!

It is appreciated that your family keep Japanese tradition even in Sri Lanka. More and more Japanese become away from traditional activity though keeping still such knowledge.

Hi Sly pan. It is funny that we are trying to keep the traditional activity abroad, isn't it? We do the same if we are in Japan but we may buy more things rather than making by ourselves.
