Time flies! A Christmas day has passed and the end of this year is coming soon. How was your year 2008? I think I had a good year in 2008 thoroughly. The most of my good memories are relating with my friends and family. Hope you had a wonderful year in 2008 and wish you will have a good year in 2009.
In Japan, we call December "SHIWASU". In Kanji-Chinese Character we write 'Teachers run'. It means it is as busy as school teachers have to run on their work. I think we have a big holidays in a new year and we prepare a lot of traditional foods for a new year in December and it makes us busy in general. We are planning for a new year and preparing the new year foods, too. Today, we made MOCHI (Rice cake) to see the conditions in advance. I can say Mochi this year is good and tasty. We will serve fresh made MOCHI on the 3rd and the 4th of January. Mochi has two kinds of shapes. One is rectangular and the other is round. Rectangular shaped mochi is popular in the east side of Japan and the round shaped Mochi is popular in the west of Japan. Hope a lot of customer will have our new year foods at Cafe Japan. We will open from 3rd of January and will serve Japanese Authentic new year foods only the 3rd and 4th of January in 2009.
